چکیده

The grain coarsening in dense nanocrystalline gadolinia-doped ceria (CGO) and CeO2 was studied for the grain size regime from 10 to 250 nm. Dense ceria-based thin films were prepared by spray pyrolysis and pulsed laser deposition on sapphire substrates. The small grain-sized CGO and CeO2 microstructures were surprisingly stable and showed self-limited grain growth and relaxation of the microstrain with time. In this regime, material transport occurs via grain boundary diffusion leading to densification and grain coarsening in the thin films. A continuous transition to common grain growth kinetics was observed for larger grains at higher temperatures. 2005 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Comparison of the thermal stability between electro-deposited and cold-rolled nanocrystalline copper samples

The objective of this work is to investigate the microstrain effect on grain growth and strain release processes in nanocrystalline (nc) samples. Two kinds of nc Cu samples were studied by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM): an electro-deposited nc Cu sample with an average grain size of about 30 nm and one after col...

Improvement of ionic conductivity of gadolinium doped ceria electrolyte with nano CuO sintering aid

Gadanium doped cerium oxide ceramic (GDC) is widely used as solid electrolytes in solid oxide fuel cells because of its high oxygen ion conductivity. In this study, the effect of addition of nano CuO as a sintering aid on the properties of GDC electrolyte were investigated. For this purpose, 0.2, 0.5, and 1% mole of nano Cuo was added to GDC ceramics, which was synthesized by the solid-state me...
